OpenSymmetry is a Consultancy Business focused on the area of Sales Performance Management and Business Intelligence. With offices in Texas in the US and Great Missenden in the UK, OpenSymmetry is an independent consulting company with a global network of highly skilled consultants.

Requirements

Rapid growth meant that OpenSymmetry needed to move to larger office premises, which gave them the opportunity to review their IT infrastructure and communication needs. After reviewing various options, they opted for the Cisco solution proposed by Unifi, which has delivered a powerful, single system for all their communication needs. Critically, the solution is helping to grow the business by delivering high-quality communication services to staff and has improved the way they operate as a business.

Due to the nature of OpenSymmetry’s business they also required a system that allowed “hot desking”. Consultants working from the office needed to be able to work from any desk so the system needed to allow them to log-in to any IP Phone.

As a global business, OpenSymmetry also required a solution that gave much cheaper calls to overseas locations compared to calls made through BT. For instance; they make a lot of calls to continental Europe and the Unifi solutions offers saving in excess to 60% of the rates charged by BT.

The Solution

The network deployment comprises Cisco networking technologies supporting around 40 Cisco Unified IP phones. All call processing is handled by Cisco Communications Manager Express and voicemail is available to all employees through Cisco Unity Express. The phones have displays which enable users to perform basic telephone tasks such as viewing incoming and missed calls quickly as well as accessing the corporate telephone directory.

Controlling and reducing investment was also a critical issue. As the Cisco technology enables OpenSymmetry to integrate a variety of different applications such as Internet connectivity, security and telephony into a single infrastructure their investment is far more cost effective.

By enabling Extension Mobility, Unifi have provided a solution that allows the consultants to log-in to any IP Phone to gain access to their individual phone profile.

With the use of Cisco IP Communicator and remote access VPN technology, Unifi have allowed employees to get exactly the same phone features from anywhere and to be able to remotely access their office PC applications and documents. Customers and colleagues can reach an employee as if you were in the office, on the same phone number. Calls to and from the office are carried over broadband at no additional cost.
